In business, we need data to be secure without making our jobs more difficult. Phalanx provides the most seamless data security by implementing Zero Trust at the file level.  We aim to make data available to as many people as possible without sacrificing security.

We were looking for a data security tool that encrypted all local files, especially as more offices go virtual. With Phalanx, the security follows each file and allows you to be compliant anywhere. Phalanx is very flexible and modular and provides the functionality we were looking for.

Ian Garrett

Ian Garrett is the CEO and co-founder of Phalanx, a secure file-sharing solution built for startups and SMBs. A recognized expert in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, Ian’s background spans engineering, scientific research, and entrepreneurship. Prior to founding Phalanx, he served as a Program Manager and Data Scientist in the defense tech industry and as an active duty US Army Cyber Corps officer, where he developed advanced cyber capabilities and led critical operations.

Ian holds a BS in Computer Science from West Point (United States Military Academy) and an MS in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. He is currently conducts research in support of his PhD in Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, focusing on cybersecurity and AI research. By merging deep technical expertise with operational leadership, Ian drives Phalanx’s vision to redefine secure file sharing for modern organizations.

Austin Garrett

Austin Garrett is the CTO and co-founder of Phalanx, where he steers the technological strategy and product innovation that powers secure file sharing for startups and SMBs. Bringing extensive experience in large-scale, encryption-based software, Austin has held multiple engineering roles at defense-focused firms, notably serving as Principal Software Engineer at Orbital ATK. His expertise in safeguarding sensitive information underpins Phalanx’s mission to stay at the forefront of data security. Austin holds a BS in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech and an MS. in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

Vicki Apodaca

Vicki Apodaca is an experienced entrepreneur and operator with a track record of building successful startups in heavily regulated industries. She has served as a founding member at three different companies—achieving two exits in FinTech (Joust, acquired by ZenBusiness) and HealthTech (Starship, acquired by Optum), including one that reached Series B. Alongside her operational expertise, Vicki advises emerging startups at Fiat Ventures, leveraging her SaaS, go-to-market, and early-stage startup expertise to help founders scale.

Committed to fostering inclusive innovation, Vicki also founded Techqueria New Mexico, a community dedicated to uplifting Latinx professionals in tech, as well as NMClimate, an initiative focused on climate solutions. Her deep knowledge of regulated sectors, combined with her passion for community building, underpins Vicki’s mission to drive transformative growth across the tech industry.
